IKF is very proud to present the IKONS project: Inclusive Karate: a new perspective to decrease sedentary lifestyle and increase self-confidence in Down Syndrome

IKONS is an European project, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European union and will be coordinated

by the sports university of Rome Foro Italico. Participating countries are Belgium, Italy, Hungary, Austria and Romania.

IKONS project will transfer and implement innovative practices at European, national, but also at regional and local levels.

In particular, the project, by means of its activities directed towards disabled people will:

The goal of the project intends to exploit the special role that sport can play for people with Down syndrome as an important

contribution towards social cohesion and more integrated societies, supporting the ‘sport for all’ principle by increasing people with Down syndrome participation in sport at noncompetitive level and paying special attention to social inclusion in sports of

disadvantaged groups.

Considering this, and in order to support the implementation of the Guidelines, IKONS wants to spread in Europe the adapted

teaching methodological approach developed in recent years by the IKF I-karate GLOBAL whose specific aim is stimulate the

integration of physically and mentally disabled persons via inclusive karate as part of their personal development. In this proposal, we would like to extend this methodological approach and its applicability and efficacy also to Down syndrome individuals.
